Due to the relatively high and narrow cross-section dimensions of both normal and light i-section steel, the moment of inertia of the two principal axes of the cross-section is quite different, therefore, it can only be directly used for bending members in the web plane or to form a lattice-type force-bearing members. It is not suitable to use the axial compression member or the member which is perpendicular to the web plane or is bent, which makes its application scope is very limited. I-BEAMS are widely used in buildings and other metal structures. Due to the relatively high and narrow section size, the inertia moment of the common i-beam and the light i-beam are quite different from each other, which limits their application. The use of i-beams shall be selected according to the requirements of the design drawings. In the structural design, I beam should be selected according to its mechanical properties, chemical properties, weldability, structural size and other reasonable choice of I beam for use.
